The $500 grow tent – how to harvest a half pound

gt

For a $500 budget I would recommend using a 2’x4’ grow tent with two 300W LED lights. I find that two 300W LED lights works much better than a single 600W LED light. With this setup, I yield a half pound dry weight per harvest usually. Below I’ve compiled a shopping list with links to Amazon for everything you need. If you don’t want to set up your own grow room and would like to hire me to do that for you, email growpotma@gmail.com!

1. A two foot by four foot grow tent. The tent linked below is the cheapest one you can get but it works just as well as any other brand.

2. Two 300W LED grow lights. As I mentioned above, two 300W LED’s will work better at covering your canopy than a single 600W LED lights. I prefer MarsHydro lights because they are cheap and efficient. Look for my blog post comparing LED light brands if you are considering a more expensive brand like King LED.

3. Carbon filter and fan, fan speed controller, light timer and thermometer/hydrometer kit. This kit is a little cheaper and a lot easier than ordering all of these things separately. The filter/fan will remove 100% of the smell from your grow, the light timer will turn your lights on and off according to your lighting schedule, and the thermometer/hydrometer is used to monitor your grow environment.

4. Fox Farms Ocean Forest Soil – the gold standard in potting soil for growing cannabis.

5. Perlite – adding 25%-30% perlite to your soil will help provide air to the roots and assist in drainage.

6. Grow bags – grow bags are superior to traditional pots, especially for beginners who are prone to over-watering their flowers. The link below is for 5-gallon grow bags, although you may want to use 7-gallon bags depending on how big you want each plant to grow.

7. Fox Farms Nutrient pack – the perfect nutrient system for beginners.

8. Circulating fan – a generic fan to move air around within the tent and encourage the plants to grow stronger stems. This fan has a clip which is perfect for hanging inside the grow tent.

9. Outlet splitter – since the light timer only has one outlet and this setup utilizes two lights, you will probably need an outlet splitter. Certain LED lights you can “daisy chain” together but I simply use an outlet splitter.

10. Jewelers loupe- this device is a cheap and simple way to observe your buds and determine when they are ready for harvest.
